    Lee,

    I don’t think your guest’s comment makes sense regarding the US Govt’s 80% ownership stake of AIG being contingent upon the extent to which AIG draws down on the facility. The extent to which AIG’s credit rating improves as a result of the $85 billion backstop facility is directly the result of the backstop facility. Therefore, the taxpayers should be getting the 80% equity stake regardless of whether AIG ultimately ends up pulling some/all of the $85 billion line (AIG otherwise would be filing bankruptcy today as creditors would have called default).

    Now, I wouldn’t put it past the US Govt to do something entirely stupid…

    Great discussion. Would have been good to hear more from T. Joe.

    Perhaps you could bring him into another discussion at some point.

    But first coach him on being more verbally aggressive . . . so his views get a better hearing.
