    lee, you said cash on companies’
    balance sheets was not really there. what did you mean by that exactly? they own mortgage backed debt that doesn’t exist anymore? thanks

    I meant that it would be difficult, and in some cases impossible to access it. It’s often held in CP or MMFs, and it can’t all be drawn at once under the best of circumstances. With the actions of the Fed in recent weeks, the short term money markets have eased, but there’s still a question of how much of the debt backing these obligations is any good.
